Predictions for Crossfit Canada East Regionals

To add a little to the discussion on the upcoming weekend, we thought we would add our highly “unqualified” predictions for this weekends 2012 Crossfit Games Canada East Regional Competition.

Men’s Competition

1. Zachary Hebert – Crossfit Quebec City

Zachary’s 9th place finish may not immediately place him as a favorite, but a second place finish on Open workout 12.2 and his reported 255 snatch suggest he may surprise some people in event 3 and 5.  A 355 Clean & Jerk should also help him blaze through the 225 pound hang cleans in event 2.  His 5′ 8″ height should also give him an advantage in the Diane event as the shorter athletes seem to be killing this one so far.

2. Albert-Dominic Larouche – Crossfit Chambly

Albert-Dominic will be the fave to top the podium in Canada East with a 2nd place last year to Jason Cain (who competed in Canada West this year).  Winning the Crossfit Open in 2012 (with 8th being his worst finish) suggest that we should expect nothing less than excellence from this guy.

I think the difference between 1st and second between these 2 stellar athletes is Zachary’s Snatch advantage.

The Women

1. Michele Letendre – Crossfit Plateau

A strong second place shows that Michele is playing for keeps.  With all eyes and expectations on Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, Michele can fly a little bit under the radar and add a little surprise to the top of the podium at Canada East.

2. Camille Leblanc-Bazinet – CrossFit Brossard

I had the good fortune of watching Camille’s performance at the 2011 Canada East Regionals.  She made the 100′s workout look like a warm-up.  There can be no doubt she is going to California and the smart money would be on her to win the 2012 Canada East Regionals. Frankly, I just think it isn’t any fun to pick the obvious winner…

Teams

The team competition has heated up in all regions with many great individual athletes choosing team.  It is also the most exciting competition with more opportunity for surprise.

1. Lusine Crossfit

On paper, they seem to have the most balance between their men and women.  The average finish of their men is 62 with 3 of the 4 athlete’s qualifying as individuals. The women’s side of the house had an average finish of 41 in the open.  With their lowest finish being Mirakim Couvrette at 66th in the open, there is simply no such thing as a weak link on this team.

2. Crossfit Brossard

Crossfit Brossard won the open with the help of Camille Leblanc-Bazinet’s killer scores.  While she obviously will not be competing on the team, it will still be the women of Crossfit Brossard that make the difference.  Three of the four women qualified for the open with a 4th, 32nd, and 45th place.  They came close to squeezing in a 4th individual qualifier with a 70th place.

Whether I am right or wrong, it is going to be an amazing event this weekend.  We wish all the amazing athletes competing a weekend full of PRs.
